Refining Our Focus
Refining Our Focus
Malachi 3:2-3
Free of unwanted substances. Improved to be more precise or exact.
It tells me that we have it in us. It can be developed. We just need to be clear minded and be precise with our focus.
If God is for us, who can be against us? – Romans 8:31
Conversely if someone don’t have a purpose.
-Lost Passion
-Lethargy
-Sense of Hopelessness
-Fustrating
1. Clear Purpose
Luke 13:31-32
Jesus was not bothered at all by the threat. Jesus had a very clear idea what his purpose was. Nothing will stop him from accomplishing his goal.
Do you have a clear purpose in your life? Or are we clouded by the lies of this world? It can blur our real purpose and focus.
So many falls for the lie of this world. We ended up focusing on the wrong things. E.g. Appearance
“It is not a bad thing to be invested in our appearance. Our physical appearance is very much a part of the ‘self.’However, we must avoid investing in our appearance for self-worth. Appearance is only one aspect of the self. In our culture, we spend too much time focused on the external while neglecting the internal.” -Jonathan Rudiger, clinical psychologist, Nashville.
Acts 17:24
God has a purpose for you and me
2. Clear Minded
Malachi 1:6-8
1 Corinthians 6:19-20
We are a temple, a community where God lives and where God is worshipped. So for God to come and purify his temple means that God is at work among us to set right the things that are wrong. The Holy Spirit is going to be constantly at work ‘refining’ his people, both as a community and as individuals.
The tribe of Levi was dedicated to the service of God. Mediators between God and the people. Took the people's sacrifices and offered them up to God. When a priest sinned, he brought guilt not only upon himself, but also upon the whole people.
Took care of the temple, making repairs when needed, and served as musicians, singers, doorkeepers. Were also the teachers of Israel and the nation's scribes. They were also the nation's regulators. For instance, they were responsible for accurate weights and measures used in Israel.
If being hurt by church causes you to lose faith in God, then your faith was in people not in God.
Hurts/Bitterness? Church is not something you go to, It’s a family you belong to.
