Prayer of Obedience
- The Hebrew verb translated ‘obey’ is šāma’
- The very same verb used in Greek and The NT is ὑπακούω hupakŏuō, hoop-ak-oo´-o;
- To hear under (as a subordinate), i.e. to listen attentively; to heed or conform to a command or authority:—hearken, be obedient to, obey.
1. Praying to God’s will
John 15:7(NIV)
If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.
John 15:7 (ESV)
7 If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.
John 15:7(NIV)

1 John 3:21-22(NIV)
21 Dear friends, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence before God, 22 and receive from him anything we ask, because we keep (τηρέω tērĕō, tay-reh´-o; from τηρός tĕrŏs) his commands and do what pleases him.
- Prayer to God's will is akin to giving up our right to be right with God in Prayer.
- Prayer is not the way we get God give us what we want. Prayer is a means God uses to give us what He knows what we need.
- We are praying according to God’s will.

9 For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives,[a] 10 so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, 11 being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience,12 and giving joyful thanks to the Father, who has qualified you[b] to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light.
James 5:16 English Standard Version (ESV)
16 Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.
