Rooted in Prayer

Why Do We Pray?

To Give Thanks
To Make Requests

Philippians 4:6
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

1. Prayer does not inform God, it involves God

Matthew 6:8
Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him

2 Chronicles 16:9
For the eyes of the Lord range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to Him.

Genesis 15:5
“He took him outside and said, “Look at the heavens and count the stars – if indeed you can count them.” Then He said to him, “So shall your offspring be.”

John 21:18
“I tell you the truth, when you were young, you were able to do as you liked; you dressed yourself and went wherever you wanted to go. But when you are old, you will stretch out your hands, and others will dress you and take you where you don’t want to go.”

2. Prayer does not change God, it changes us.

Genesis 15:6
Abram believed the Lord, and he credited it to him as righteousness.

135,000 : 30,000 (4:1)
135,000 : 300 (400:1)

Prayer Changes US IF We Listen & Believe in Him

Malachi 3:6
God Does Not Change

God is not interested in changing the situation but
HE is more interested in changing US

3. Prayer does not get our will done, it gets God's will done on earth

Jesus prayed “not my will, but yours be done.”

Jeremiah 29:11-13
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”

Matthew 6:9-10
This, then, is how you should pray: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

What He thinks and what He knows that we need

Request not Demand
Let go and let God

Proverb 12:5
The way of fools seems right to them, but the wise listen to advice.

Proverbs 11:14
For lack of guidance a nation falls, but victory is won through many advisers.

Where there is strife, there is pride, but wisdom is found in those who take advice

Proverbs 19:20
Listen to advice and accept discipline, and at the end you will be counted among the wise

Proverbs 24:6
Surely you need guidance to wage war, and victory is won through many advisers

Proverbs 27:9

4. Prayer is not because God needs us, but because we need God

“For if anyone thinks he is something when he is nothing, he deceives himself.”
