Duras = Hard
Durare = To Harden

Resilience, which has the ability to undergo pressure, without breaking

1 Cor 1:18
For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God

Matthew 10:22
But everyone who endures to the end will be saved

Mark 4:17
Other people; like seed sown on rocky places; hear the word, but, since they have no root, they endure for only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes; because of the word, they quickly fall away’

1. Endurance With Progression

Hebrews 12:1-3
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne. Think of all the hostility he endured from sinful people;then you won’t become weary and give up.

Race = agona
“Let us run with agona”

2. Endurance With Obedience

2 Thes 1:3-4
Your faith is growing, more and more; and the love every one of you has for each other is increasing. Therefore, among God's churches, we boast about your perseverance and faith in all the persecutions and trials that you are enduring

Romans 5:3-5 (HCSB)
And not only that, but we also rejoice in our afflictions, because we know that affliction produces endurance, endurance produces proven character, and proven character produces hope. This hope does not disappoint, because God's love has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us

Hebrews 10:36 (HCSB)
For you need endurance, so that after you have done God's will, you may receive what was promised

J. B. Phillips paraphrased James 1:2-4
When all kinds of trials crowd into your lives, my brothers, don't resent them as intruders, but welcome them as friends! Realize that they have come to test your endurance. But let the process go on until that endurance is fully developed, and you will find you have become men (and women) of mature character

God doesn't call the equipped
He equips the called

Isaiah 61:1-3
The Spirit of the Sovereign Lordis on me,because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve in Zion—to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of his splendor.
